Against the Odds

Giovani “Gio” Lopez is an independent artist who founded ‘Legendary Art Collective’ in Spring of 2019. 

"My dream is to give the kids who have ‘nothing’ a head start. I believe that the support should be there for them BEFORE becoming an independent adult.” - Gio

     I was born in Montebello,CA and raised by my single mother (Carmen) in Quincy,WA. My early inspiration came from the Chicano culture and graffiti, but growing up in a small farm town in central Washington there wasn't much of that to see.

     I developed my skills through coloring competitions at home with my siblings (Jose, Liliana) and art classes in middle school, but mostly from long hours bored and alone at home. Around the age of 11 I saw a tattoo being made, I knew then that that was my destiny. Considering the fact that my mom didn't have much money to provide me with art supplies, I stuck to pencil and paper. I couldn't afford quality supplies and I especially could not afford to get caught doing graffiti. 

     After going through some rough teenage years and making many bad decisions, I decided to turn my life around and do my best to become a positive figure. At the age of 22 I married my beautiful wife (Yaneth), she then had my handsome son, (Jovani) in September of 2016. 2 weeks later I started my tattoo journey at Famous Ollie Tattoo Studio under the wing of Oliver Venegas, which is where I'm currently tattooing out of.

     Although I always give it my all when creating tattoos I am my biggest critic, so I find it difficult to show too much pride for my work. I enjoy the 1-on-1 time with my clients and getting to know each and every one of them. I've listened to many different stories about life changing experiences, resulting in strong relationships with my clients.

     I am a firm believer of hard work, patience and persistence. I want to keep creating permanent art till the day I'm gone. I hope you all enjoy my artwork for many years to come.
